A lovely day spent up at one of our many mountain lakes here in southern Oregon ended with this gorgeous meadow of purple-pink sweet peas, aka 'vetchling', just as the sun was setting behind the hills. My husband & I walked out into the middle of this field of wildflowers, found a comfy rock to rest on and were serenaded by songbirds, while surrounded by a fragrant breeze. How could I not think of leprechauns & magical lands across the sea?
Lathyrus is a genus of flowering plant species known as sweet peas and vetchlings, found in the legume family, Fabaceae, and contains approximately 160 species. Native to temperate areas with 52 species in Europe, 30 species in North America, 78 in Asia, 24 in tropical East Africa and 24 in temperate South America. There are annual and perennial species which may be climbing or bushy.

Bless your sweet heart, Sharon! Thank you for the return visit. It is a beautiful space a few miles outside of town and up a hill a ways. Though we return every Mother's Day, it has never looked or felt as beautiful as it did on that day. The sweet peas bloom less & less. I'm SO glad I got a few lovely captures...and, of course, I arranged that sun to be setting just perfectly in this one, LOL!
