Description
Honored to have this piece chosen from the FAA - Pixels field by an interior design firm to be featured in a special gallery exhibit in Palm Desert, CA.
'Hen & Chicks', a favorite garden perennial, offers the perfect pop of color & design for any home or office. In summer, tiny delicate star-shaped blossoms, resembling little jeweled crowns, decorate this lovely plant. The florets, seen here, grow & multiply for up to four years before sending out a stalk of flowers, which is necessary for its longevity, as those that do flower will die soon afterward. Good thing the 'hen' produces many little 'chicks', so there are always several to take her place! Mother Nature is so amazing.
Be sure to choose the 'vertical' orientation when purchasing the 20 x 14 throw pillow [with or without insert]! Adjust image to fit.

More details:
Also known as Hen & Biddies and belonging to the flowering plant family Crassulaceae native to Europe and northern Africa, these perennials grow close to the ground with leaves formed around each other in a rosette, propagating by offsets. The 'hen' is the main plant and the 'chicks' are the offspring, which start as tiny buds on the main plant and soon sprout their own roots, taking up residence close to the mother plant.
Hen & Chicks is also the popular name of a strain of opium poppy, Papaver somniferum, btw, in which the seed head is surrounded by clusters of smaller heads.
Popular in gardens for its varied and interesting appearance and hardiness, this plant is usually grown in containers or rock gardens. It does best in well-drained, rocky soil; if they are kept wet, the outer leaves will rot. Although this succulent does best in sun, it will grow in light shade, as well.
